Pinnacle Point Golf and Beach Resort

This is a golf course that absolutely lives up to its name. Opened not too long ago, in 2006, Pinnacle Point Golf and Beach Resort soon reached the upper echelons of the world’s most beautiful courses. Halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, this par 72 is lined with very dense and fragrant scrub known as fynbos. It has no fewer than seven holes facing the Indian Ocean, four of which are perched on a cliff top.

Turnberry Golf Club

When a course has hosted the British Open on four separate occasions, you know you are dealing with something special. Top of the class in every way, Turnberry offers spectacular views of the Firth of Clyde, the Mull of Kintyre and the Isle of Arran and iconic holes like the famous 9th (above) on the magical Ailsa Course, with a lighthouse overlooking the green.

Budersand Sylt Golf Club

The Budersand Sylt course is perfectly in keeping with the values of a country where environmentalism has long been a central concern. This course was developed in complete harmony with nature and has found pride of place among the dunes, with its old-style, elegantly discreet charm.

Cypress Point Country Club

Players come here particularly for the magnificent series of holes 15, 16 and 17, where the noise of the waves crashing against the rocks, seals calling and birds singing immerse the lucky few who play at Cypress in a wonderfully uproarious scene. When it comes to playing these holes, there is no time for nerves or erring over your choice of club, as you need to cross water on three separate occasions.

Tara Iti Golf Club

You would be forgiven for thinking that the dunes and fairways had been sculpted by nature, but you’d be wrong. It took Tom Doak two years to shape the land to perfection after removing several acres of pine forest.

There is a debate raging among those golfers lucky enough to have played in New Zealand: Which of the courses designed by Tom Doak is the best, Cape Kidnappers or Tara Iti? One way of settling it would be to say that Cape Kidnappers is more spectacular, while golfing purists tend to prefer Tara Iti, a shoreline links located a little more than an hour north of Auckland. The extremely sandy ground has been covered in fescue from tee to green on every hole, giving the course a uniform elegance.
